Blog Challenge Day 7

Day 7 

Todays Challenge is to tell you my favourite movies! Now this is going to be hard for me as my favourites often change based on whats new, if I've watched it too much and I have a lot of dvd's to choose from! Thankfully I don't have to choose just one!

So lets see...I like period dramas and my favourites are Little Women, Lorna Doone, Wives and Daughters and Mansfield Park ( though I have many others!)

I like RomComs and I think my favourites are Sweet Home Alabama, The Lake House, Miss Congeniality, Legally Blonde 

I like Musicals and this is easier! My favourites are White Christmas and Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, Singing In The Rain

Golden Oldies (how old does it have to be to count?) An Affair to Remember, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Dirty Dancing (this is what I meant by old enough) 

Disaster Movies... The Day After Tomorrow, The Core, Twister

Any other favourites are...The Lord of the Rings, Up Close and Personal, No Reservations, Star Trek Insurrection

Day 6 A picture of something that makes you happy! Now let me see what on earth could that be? As if there could be more than one choice! hehe

Blog Challenge Day 4

Day 4 of my bloggy challenge! Today's subject is my parents.

So what can I say about my parents? Their greatest achievement is the fact they have been married for nearly 47 years! It hasn't been easy or plain sailing! There have been lots of fights and arguments and they nearly divorced but they sought help and worked hard to stay together! I am so proud of them for doing this and watching them has given me the training I need to have a successful marriage too (when God blesses me with a husband!) 

Another thing my parents have taught me is how to be hospitable! Our home is always open for visitors with an offer of a cup of tea or a meal! No matter how little food we had there was always enough to stretch it for a soul in need! On Sundays mum would always put on extra roast potatoes and frequently invited someone for lunch and tea. Often a single person who would maybe miss having someone to share Sunday lunch with. I know when I have lived on my own how difficult Sundays could be and wished someone had done this for me! I have been told before that I expect too much from Church but everything I expect I have learnt from my parents! Take note Christians! There is someone setting a great example! Can you follow suit? And if that is not enough my family didn't get invited out very often as mum is such a good cook they felt they couldn't give her something up to her standard but she would have just appreciated the fellowship and not having to cook for once!

My parents have tried to adopt in the past but were turned down but they have always talked about it and so I would love to open up my home to children in need! Some people feel that taking on someone else's child even as a baby could give them problems later in the child's life as the child might have criminal parents and therefore may become criminals themselves. I don't believe that and my parents are probably the reason why. They have taught me not to be prejudiced against anyone and to always give people a chance.

My parents both went to University late in life (mum was 56 when she graduated and dad graduated a year later aged 61) So they showed me it's never too late to follow your dreams! 

My mum is my best friend! I share everything with her and I have to say I do know her better than my dad does (oops) I was a daddy's girl when I was young but now my relationship with my Dad is not so great (I'm told it's ;cause we are too alike) but when I was living in Essex and struggling my dad was there for me and 

supported me. We get on best when we're not living in the same house ;-)

I get my love of music and desire for justice and fairness from my Dad and my craftiness and hospitality from my Mum. Both parents have passed on their shyness and compassion to me as well as stubbornness and temper! I have always been secure in the fact that my parents love me no matter how difficult things were at home. I hope that I can offer my kids as good a home as my parents have given me with just perhaps fewer rows hehe.

Blog Challenge Day 2

Day 2 of my bloggy challenge. Today I'm going to tell you the meaning behind my blog name.

In my last post I told you that that I lost my sight when I was 4 years old. I had cataracts which is hereditary. Well in the following year I had 4 eye operations and although that did restore a large amount of my sight there were still things even with my lovely (!) thick glasses that I couldn't see for a couple of years. Things like stars and rainbows. So when I was 6 and we were at a Christian Festival (Camping in very muddy conditions) There was a big rainbow over the entire campsite! Everyone was ooh and ahhing when suddenly (as my Mum tells it) a little voice from the back cries "I can see it!" yes that little voice was mine and there was a lot of rejoicing at me seeing my first rainbow since my operations.

Since then the sight of rainbows always fills me with delight and I will stop what I'm doing and watch it for as long as it stays (unless I'm driving of course). I have become adept at spotting the slightest sign of a double rainbow too! I often find that rainbows appear at times when I need encouragement or a lift which just makes them more special.

. I use rainbows in everything personal. My first email address (that wasn't my name) was rainbowflute (I play the flute as I said yesterday) my first business name was Celt Celf which doesn't mean rainbow but I had a rainbow on my logo, my current business name is Rainbow Cottage (you get the theme hehe) and so as my blog is to be the things I want to share on a daily basis, the grey days when I need a rainbow and the Rainbow Days when the sun has come out and the rainbow is there in all it's glory!

It maybe that there is a break in my 30 days due to a sudden trip to Cornwall for my little goddaughter Sarah’s christening. I’m very excited to be going back to Cornwall and catching up with as many of my lovely friends as I can but I will try and find time to blog as much as possible.
