Friendship Vignettes - Week 15 - Frosty

Hi! Welcome to week 15 of Friendship Vignettes! This weeks theme is Frosty. Maria living in Herefordshire had frost like I've never seen! Up here in Lancaster we weren't so lucky but I am pleased with my pictures. I was amazed when I went up to the park for my first photo trip. There was no sign of snow or ice or anything on my road but just a 10 minute walk away we still had the remnants of a winter wonderland and the lake was just totally iced over and covered with snow! My second trip was after we had the only frost this week and was able to get the shot that has made my final choice.

We have a new blog! Maria wanted somewhere that we could have each weeks top photo's in one place. Just the photo's so they speak for themselves and here it is ... Friendship Vignettes

We will still be posting to our own blogs where we can talk a bit about our inspiration and places we have visited to find our photo's My first place to visit for all outdoor photo's is Williamson Park here in Lancaster. It is very beautiful and varied.

Don't forget to pop over to Maria's blog Maria Divine to see her other divine creations. Her frosty photo's are nothing short of outstanding and are not to be missed!

Here is my slideshow of the other photo's I've taken this week.

Friendship Vignettes - Week 13 - Number

Hi! Welcome to week 13 of Friendship Vignettes! This weeks theme is Number. Notice the slideshow again this week so you can see all the photo's I have taken in one place! This week has been an interesting one. It is my dad's 70th birthday today so it was lovely to be able to include the photo of the card I made him. It nearly won top spot but the one I chose just pipped it to the post! I am also pleased to have the number of my car with snow on top. Very suitable for the week we have had. I love snow and how pretty it looks, not so keen on getting out in it for fear of landing on my bottom! I hope you have been able to enjoy enjoy the snow and not been too hampered by it. Well enjoy this weeks picks!

Don't forget to pop over to Maria's blog Maria Divine to see her other divine creations and to Maria Sees for the other pictures that she took on this weeks theme. She has a lovely selection!

My Belated Birthday Present

Around the time of my birthday my Auntie Chris and my cousin, Kirsty, went to Jersey and so told me they would buy my present there.

A little bit late but today my present arrived!

A beautiful necklace made by Agateware. They have a secret method of combining white clay and metal oxides to beautiful effect!

 Front

Back

Isn't it lovely! I love it and am wearing it already! Totally my colours!

They also bought me a beautiful scarf from Jersey Pearl

I'm not sure when I'll get to wear this but it is lovely!

So thank you Chris and Kirsty! xxx

Botany Bay!

After years of promising ourselves a trip to Botany Bay and not making it, even though it's only 30 miles away, Mum and I finally got there today! Now obviously this is not the botany bay in America but a big shopping centre situated in an old mill just outside of Chorley, Lancashire.

It is so atmospheric in places really 'Olde Worlde'. You feel like you have stepped back in time! This shop is an old fashioned sweet shop too! very tempting but we resisted!

We saw it as a perfect opportunity to do some Christmas shopping and we did...some Christmas shopping and bought ourselves some nice treats too!

The whole 4th floor (thats right there are 5 floors!) was a Christmas shop full of beautiful decorations! We bought a couple of decorations to go on our window which gets more elaborate each year! You could spend a lot of money but prices we very reasonable!

We stopped twice. Once for lunch and once for coffee and cakes. Here's mum with her dinner :-)

Aren't these doors lovely? Very Victorian! We were informed by notice that a lot of original features had been kept. Maybe these doors were one of them.

Sooo what did we buy? Well I can't show you the presents we bought as some of them for friends who read this blog but here are the treats we bought for ourselves...

The angel is a candle holder for our Advent candle, the star is a tealight holder. I really fell in love with this! The candle is for my bedroom for tv time and the coaster is for my bedroom too. The robin and the 'Have Faith' are both for the Christmas window (I'll blog about it when I do it next month) and the little heart bowl is for me to possibly use in pictures of earrings for my business and in that a little treat for me...Parma Violets!

And finally...I can't find my gloves!! I have found my matching hat and scarf but not my gloves so I bought these ones! They are lovely! I will wear them in a minute when we go to get fish and chips for tea. The hat I was very pleased to find as my friend bought me a hat just like that. All my friends will tell you I'm always losing things on the bus or in a shop and I lost that hat. So now I am very pleased to have found one just like it!

One lovely last Christmassy picture for you...

Isn't this lovely?! Hope you have enjoyed this post and have as much Christmas shopping as we did!

New Books ~ Review 1

A month or so ago I told you about some new books I had bought at a sale at my dad's church if you missed it here is the link to the post http://rainbowflute.blogspot.com/2010/09/new-books.html

So i thought having read 2 of them that maybe I should let you know if I enjoyed them and why.

So first I read

'A Vintage Affair' by Isabel Wolff

This book did not disappoint! Centred around the story of Phoebe who was opening a Vintage dress shop and how her search for vintage clothes brought her into contact with an older lady nearing the end of her life with a secret to tell. A secret that mirrors a secret in Phoebes own past. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about vintage clothes being in the fashion industry myself but too enjoyed hearing Therese's story and being transported to France and to the 2nd World War. It is lovely to see the healing that this relationship brings each of these hurting women! It is a book I will keep and read again.

I would recommend this book to my friends.

The next book I read was

'Marshmallows For Breakfast' by Dorothy Koomson.

I just loved this title! The idea of eating Marshmallows for Breakfast! What a treat! I was a bit concerned when the blurb on this book said that Kendra fed her neighbours kids Marshmallows for breakfast but actually it was make believe! Kendra was distracting 6 year old twins from the loud argument their father was having with their mother over the phone! From that moment I was hooked! I love children and anyone with the imagination to grab children's attention from the horrors going on around them has my approval! This is the beginning of a very special relationship between Kendra and Kyle and his twins Summer and Jaxon. All of them are hurting and this is the relationship that brings healing to them all and even reaches beyond them to others around them! A difficult book to read if you have issues with alcoholism and rape and infertility but these issues are dealt with very sympathetically.

The reviews of the book I read on Amazon and from a friend I wasn't sure if I would like this book. The reviews weren't good ones at all. Maybe because they had read other books by this author and this one doesn't compare well or maybe it was the subject matter but I loved it! I was totally involved with the story of these peoples lives and found it very hard to put down! Again I book I will keep and highly recommend! I look forward of reading other books by this author!

Well I hope you like my reviews and maybe will give these books a try yourself.

My next book is The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean which I started last night. I'll let you know how I get on with it.
